The New Moon in Leo August 17th is solar ruled, radiant with dramatic flair and emotionally proud-needing to feel noticed and admired. Leo’s masculine strength, self confidence and courage steps up to make their mark. With Leo, its about up close and personal and centered upon the self as opposed to its polarity opposite of impersonal detachment-Aquarius-suffice to say Leo takes it personally and feels anything close to the heart. A Leo Moon feels emotionally stroked when they are flattered and complimented and given notice hence their tendency for grand entrances and owning a room. They can take elaborate measures to dominate or rule their surroundings burning brightly with passionate regal display.
With Leo ruling over gambling and gold-this might be a good time to play your hand and look at your investments – gold being a good choice in your investment portfolio at this time. Leo rules creation and with creation goes destruction as an infinite spinning loop. Leo rules over royalty, the lion and the big cats who bask in their lazy, kingly fashion. The Lion with its mane of hair – Leo’s are very astute about their locks. The Lion is fiercely protective of its young, The Golden Fleece in mythology depicted the golden hair of the goat, a cloak that protected and shielded one from harm – royalty of gold to help Jason find his rightful place on the throne.

This Sabian Symbol is quite interesting and serendipitous. The Sabian Symbol of the last New Moon in Cancer – “A Storm in a Canyon”- compared to this New Moon in Leo-“A Rainbow”. The message is especially noteworthy, compelling and revealing much about the workings of nature and the turbulent overflow. I was really moved by the indication of following nature as a spiritual guide and trusting in an inner higher calling and voice. Usually what comes after storms are rainbows – the turmoil and turbulence of storms can reveal a light and inner spark. We often find through challenge and pressing frustration the ability to transform and unfold unfound new resources and possibilities with fortitude, blessings and hope.
Alchemy often works with the concept of taking the rough stone and uncovering the shiny diamond. Seeing opportunity in challenge-often a challenge necessitates that we take the extra steps we would normally not take had we not been face to face to be pushed to take action. In the eye of a storm, we find solutions due to a matter of urgency. Survival mechanisms kick in and we pull out our adrenalin charged fire uncovering gifts and hidden treasures.
As per Liz Greene in, Dynamics of the Unconscious. “That is the most profound message of alchemy-that there is a natural process of development at work, which conscious participation can enhance. It is not a process of random destruction, but one which moves toward something of great value-the alchemical gold.” This essentially points to the disruption and psychological emotional storms that often occur when experiencing cathartic unconscious processes becoming conscious.
The New Moon sextiles Mars Saturn-constructive, disciplined, focused, ambitious and deliberate actions. The energy of this formation is productive, responsible and conscientious. This is a great energy to form new relationships and make decisions that are solid and intact having integrity and ethical consideration. Saturn represents longevity where long term plans and commitments can be put into place.
The New Moon is in a waxing opposition to Neptune. The Sun building to an opposition to Neptune, August 24th, the Moon Wobble stage where the Sun Moon square the nodal axis, a cross point between eclipses is adding much to a sense of uncertainty and doubt, stirring a sense of false hope where we learn to trust in a higher force that is shape shifting our future- beliefs we set in motion now vibrate our outcome so best to steer away from defeatist vibes.
Mars conjoin Saturn Libra through the New Moon. Mars Saturn related-Saturn on Mars is putting the brakes on which can be a blessing where any Mars rashness and impulsiveness can be channeled into slow steady curtailed discipline. This is a sign of disciplined, controlled action as well as cautious and conservative management -energy where you grit your teeth and learn to grin and bear any frustrations. Mars Saturn is typical of slowing things down and literally blocking pathways, roadblocks and obstacles in the way. Libra is the sign ruling over relationships and partnerships-this energy gives the option of building bridges and negotiating fair (best) practices.

We experienced several earthquakes-California 4.4, Iran 6.4 and 6.3 (there were two very strong Thors Hammer aspects between Mars Saturn the Moon and Chiron as well as between the Sun Uranus and Pluto during the Iran earthquakes), Russia had a 7.7 earthquake just as the Mars Saturn aspect became exact-luckily the Russian earthquake was deep enough and far enough away where there was no damage. Lots of complaints lately of health issues Saturn Mars related- muscle strain (Mars), knees (Saturn), skin issues (Saturn) due to inflammation (Mars). Back problems are a Libra issue –with Mars Saturn aches and pains and literally pulling a muscle or putting your back out. Saturn tightens and restricts so best to try to keep flexible and limber-yoga would be good practice at this time. Saturn is the sign of teeth, bones, skin, hair, dryness (drought) and aging. Mars Saturn would also be indicative of pressure headaches.
Mercury is up to speed again ramping up to finish with a trine to Uranus and again forming a YOD with Pluto and Chiron it started at the Quarter Moon crisis point July 26th finishing off any adjustments and compromises started at that point and moves on as Mercury passes its shadow August 22nd. Mercury will move to 25 degrees Leo, the degree of the New Moon Leo on August 29th just before the Full Moon (Blue Moon) August 31. This is an opportunity come to some fruition that was planted during the New Moon. This makes something intended on come to some communication (Mercury) pact-a good time to seal the deal.
Venus moved into Cancer last week after being in Gemini for several months which really shifts the attention from yang to yin inward focus when it comes to love. Cancer is about security, safety, caring and nurturing your lovers and relationships-assuring warmth with tender touchy feely affection. Cancer is home and family oriented-Venus Cancer may like to keep love close to home (usually enjoys entertaining at home) and prefers that love feels predictable and is taken seriously-private and tends to be more withdrawn, shy and retiring. Venus Cancer is attentive and can be codependent with a mothering if not smothering tendency in love. Cancer’s naturally protective instincts come to life and will go the extra mile to ensure those close will be guarded and watched over.
Often in times of uncertainty and change the response and reaction in Cancer is stomach upsets and issues where they feel the threat of chaos to their very center- Cancer rules over the stomach, breasts where our bodies take on the stress and manifest in our most vulnerable areas-usually pertaining to our stomach and gut. Venus Cancer in stress is also a time one may find soothing with their comfort foods and resort to stress eating-binging or to wanting to cling tightly to something or someone- smothering my cat with lots of hugs seems to do the trick.
August 15th is peak energy as Mars Saturn is exact with Venus tsquare Uranus Mars-further with the tsquare creating a tense angle with the Sun-activating a Thors Hammer. Domestic/family tension may rise-issues with money or self worth, relationship struggles with potential betrayal, jealousy and power struggles-Venus oppose Pluto. Venus square Uranus –disruption and disorder creating anxiety typical of Uranus unpredictable and unexpected changes but also adding exciting and unconventional sparks to relationships and a breath of fresh air that change can bring.
Pluto rules over the elimination organs and Prince Phillip is again in hospital with persistent infections with his bladder-his Pluto is in Cancer at 7 degrees under strain from the current tsquare. Venus Uranus Pluto brings up the Shafia murder story-a news story I watched this week-where four Afgan family members were murdered by their own flesh and blood due to family honor-a tragic event that happened June 30 2009. This Venus tsquare manifested an unhappy surprise of a wasp nest in my front porch chair-my domestic crisis. The last few Venus Uranus Pluto tsquares had me experience a similar confrontation with a different kind of nest –a hornets nest of the female office kind.
Venus is continuing in a semisquare with the Sun started mid July and will continue until mid September now enhanced with the New Moon-further showing the strain, sore spots or struggles around anything Venus related-finance, earnings, self worth, relationships and partnership. One particular notice was those in the artistic and spiritual community who are standing up to be recognized and paid for their work instead of being expected to be starving artists or giving out of the good of their heart with charity donations. Venus is also trine Chiron showing an opportunity to heal any wounds around Venus related issues.
Julian Assange was given political asylum in Ecuador. The New Moon reflects the victory with public attention as it moves through his 10th house sextile Mars Saturn Libra (diplomatic stand off) in his 11th house of supporters. His Neptune oppose Saturn over his Sagittarius ASC/Gemini DESC is just under the lights of the nodal axis finally finishing the pass over this point with transit Neptune through his 4th house (home) square his Neptune-showing mercy. Uranus rules his house of home and is in Libra, stressed by the current Uranus Pluto transit which is showing his home life under siege.
Mars Saturn is moving through Julian’s 11th house showing social protection expressed due to human rights and fairness. Mars Saturn is strain his Mercury Cancer in the 9th (legal) showing the blockage legally. Venus Cancer is currently over his Cancer Sun-Cancer represents protection and safety however safety is still his bane as safe passage is under threat as transit Pluto is still oppose his Sun-opposition still a strong force. He has a talent triangle with Jupiter in Scorpio in his 12th (hidden, secretive) with Pluto 11th (friends) and Mercury in his 9th house( freedom)- showing his ability to get around any barrier to slip through the cracks with a little help from his Latin friends and possible loopholes.
Madonna is in the news with all the heated public bashing attacks from Elton John and Putin, the Russian president -her birthday August 16th just before the New Moon. The eclipses and nodal axis have and are focusing on her public house. The south node over the MC (public, career, reputation) is a weakening and dissolving point and PR (public relations) checks should be in place during these times being sensitive to a “fall from grace” and losing popularity.
These eclipses have also been stressing her ASC and Moon at the same time showing challenge to her self expression and initiative affecting how she is perceived. Soon eclipses will affect her Sun in Leo in the 12th house as they move through her 3rd house of communication in Scorpio (November 13 2012) -the 12th house is the house of undoing so may be a time of unraveling due to communications.
Madonna has her career ruler Mercury in Virgo, Mercury also ruling her chart over her Virgo ASC in her 12th house showing her communications being her influence and how messages can be derided. Her Virgo Moon over her ASC personifies her “Madonna” brand and gives her the power of her positioning. Her Virgo stellium is under the opposition of Chiron Pisces now showing some wounds in her career and image.
Julia Child’s Birthday this week as well-August 15th – she would have been 100 this year. A passionate, creative entertaining Leo celebrity chef – you can see her love of food and cooking with her strongly tenanted 4th house where she spent much time in the kitchen.
