New Moon in Capricorn
New Moon in Capricorn 2016 “Music of the Night” Phantom of the Opera
The New Moon of a New Year is a key time frame as it starts out the path of the year with clues in how to initiate an effective plan with quick returns. The New Moon in Capricorn sets the tone to Capricorn intentions (ruled by Saturn), where resolutions and goals in Capricorn style (earth sign) lay the groundwork. Capricorn resides over status, success, career, responsibility, accomplishments, achievements, authority, bosses, reputation, so it becomes a time for revisiting our station in life and ponder on the next phase, next steps and next chapter for the year.
New Moons are always a time to call on the spirit of the Moon to help with some new beginning. The New Moon in Capricorn is during the darkest time of year, where the night is long and it should be a time to honor the night and all its richness and mystery. The New Moon in Capricorn is also over Pluto Capricorn, emphasizing the darkness, allowing a time to dig deep, inciting the imagination, conjuring up hidden ideas and visions. We spend so much time chasing after the light and sun yet we don’t give much honor to the night, where in the darkest hour, we can find unseen treasures and in the hidden voices of the dark, a light can flicker.
Light a candle every evening in an area of life you would like to enhance and draw out of the dark. In Feng Shui, north-career, south-reputation and fame, east-family, health, south/east-wealth, south/west-love, west- children, friends, creativity, white candle for vision, green/blue for health and prosperity, red and pink for love, orange for creativity. The year 2016 is a 9 in numerology which gives it a special tie into expansive fire and a time to wrap up and get all in order for a brand new collective cycle and beginning with 2017 as a 1. (personal numerical cycle based on your birth date. Count your birth day, month, year to a single digit to get your personal number and the current year to get your current cycle.)
Mercury is in retrograde in Capricorn until end of January which may stall or have one sit on their plans and resolutions, not quite ready to move on full force just yet, giving some more time to ponder, rethink, restrategize and revise. Watch what house Mercury is travelling in to see how the retrograde may impact. 1st house-direction, physical body, 2nd house- finances, self worth, 3rd house-short trips, communications, accidents, 4th house-home, family.
Saturn, ruling Capricorn, is in Sagittarius now with a focus on beliefs and believing where careful what you believe in is akin to watch what you wish for, as that becomes your reality or what you manifest and with all the energy in earth signs the power to manifest is strong. Saturn is deemed the planet that dictates taking responsibility, control and thus choice and consequence to our choices. Saturn would be the one that says we make our choices or our bed and thus sleep in it however having complete control or holding the bag for full responsibility is relative to many things such as environment relationships, the weather and your chart transits etc. as we don’t live in a bubble.
I tend to see those who have a strong 1st house (eastern charts) as more self directed who do take more control and thus seem to have more choice. Those who have strong 7th house (western charts) seem to be more at the mercy of others, relationships although the weather and what surrounds us affects free will universally. The only real choice we have is how we respond to those times with lack of control or free will when caught up in an accident, violent attack, bullying, lose a job, get hit by an earthquake, get robbed etc. The best that Saturn can do is be the responsible parent that prepares a plan b or plan p for preparation by following common sense rules, save for a rainy day, get insurance, lock your doors, look both ways before crossing the street…
Venus joins Saturn in Sagittarius giving it a somber serious tone, cooling relations and adding a slump to finances and the financial market. Saturn points to what is and a reckoning and recognition of how past choices have brought you to your current station to swallow a bitter pill or accept some limit. Judgement can get harsh and strict, imposing one’s beliefs on others with more attention to practice what you preach, remembering or recognizing that what you condemn in others, you may have or been guilty of yourself. Venus Saturn is making an applying trine to Uranus which adds some nice mix of discipline with freedom, and takes out some of the Saturn heaviness.
The New Moon is once again instigated by Uranus square Pluto, although in a separating aspect but still hitting up the Uranus anything goes, exception to the rule, on the fringe, off the rails train wreck swerve over the curve jolt of wake up shake up (more storms, floods, climate change banging us up side of the head …). Uranus has been sitting at a station at 16 degrees Aries for the last month and hit up close and personal (scary) to the Vancouver BC area (my home turf) with a shock wave earthquake ( no damage but definitely took notice), timely as Vancouver Sun sign is at 16 degrees Aries.
Uranus ignites the New Year intentions of out with the old and in with the new, with a wrecking crew ready to dismantle, distract, disturb, disrupt with discomfort, diversion, diversity out of the comfort zone and any complacency. With the New Moon in Capricorn in aspect to Uranus, it is finding one’s own authority, in a radical turn from the usual or common, off the beaten track. Uranus is usually electric so brings on a sparkle with a tinge of explosion to any concoction, and in Harry Potter, and my new guru, Jamie Oliver terms “brilliant”. Uranus viva la difference is seen with those who have a strong Uranus signature in their chart, especially in connection to their Sun Sign where they don’t relate to or are not typical of their Sun sign.
The New Moon in Capricorn conjoin Pluto, also separating is still instigating some action with news on the H bomb, sexual abuse, pipelines. Over the holidays with some down time, I tend to do movie marathons and this year it was the”brilliant” Harry Potter series, as Mercury retrograde would have it, reruns and replays. Harry Potter is very much the Pluto theme, of the dark side, death, survival, power, dominance, bullying and destruction with Pluto (Harry Potter) as the protagonist and his Saturn/Mercury messenger and side kick, (Hedwig), the owl. The message of Pluto, good or ill, owning or giving power away as inner demons scream for attention and dominance or courageous crusaders and leaders fight to feed and follow the light where it sometimes takes the descent to the darkest depths to find the light.
The New Moon in Capricorn makes an applying trine in line with Jupiter and the nodal axis in Virgo. The nodal axis is important as it is the focal point where energies should be focused and trines in general are beneficial with the Sun trine Jupiter angel over your shoulder, that instills the motto, happy go lucky. This is the lucky elixir and a great instigator of forward, productive motion for the year. Applying aspects are much more pressing on future potential and Jupiter is all about increase, expansion and luck and better with anything foreign, travel, so it befits to appreciate all the current abundance and be grateful as to what is good, find your happy place while putting less attention to those areas that give you a downer. Happiness = Success seems the most auspicious return where if you are happy then you are successful instead of success to be happy.
Jupiter transits through a new sign every year so it fits to look to where the Virgo Jupiter Nodal axis is transiting to see where the lucky breaks for the year are. Look to the houses, the planets and the ruler of the houses connected to Jupiter, more so if Jupiter hits direct on a specific planet or point. 8th house (investments, gifts, money from partners, others), in the 6th house (lucky breaks with work and health), 10th house (career perks), 7th house (relationships), 1st house ( initiative, self promotion) etc. Jupiter transits to Venus (improved relations and PR), Jupiter to Moon (emotional joy), Jupiter to Sun (increased vitality and confidence). Jupiter is generally always a blessing and especially so this year as it joins the nodal axis and makes a trine to Pluto however if your natal Jupiter isn’t in good shape or Jupiter is afflicted, it might bring on more of what you don’t want (bad luck).
Virgo is for getting things sorted, organized and structured (Capricorn). With this focus on Jupiter Virgo over the nodal axis and the Virgo influence, time to hone in on getting your ducks in a row, make lists, (write down your intentions and goals), clean out the closets the clutter, new health plan and get energy working for you. I have found this very apparent with a Feng Shui practice of putting your house in order literally following the energy corners and optimizing space and energy flow. Virgo rules over the health and Jupiter (abundance, joy) so the promise of New Year wishes of health, prosperity and happiness is close at hand.
