Full Moon in Cancer
Full Moon in Cancer “Twas the Night Before Christmas…”
This is a rare Christmas Full Moon lighting up the Christmas Eve sky in the wee hours of the night, right and ready for Santa Claus. The Sun in Capricorn ruled by Saturn (father), and ruling over tradition oppose the Moon in Cancer (mother), with the Moon ruled by Cancer and residing over home, family and nurture are rightly paired this year at the holiday season as families and intimate kin gather close again to celebrate favorite family rituals with all forms of festive fancies. With the luminous Full Moon in Cancer shining over the darkest nights, the Moon lights the way and casts a glow over Christmas, with a message of peace, hope and faith, as the brightness gives a lift out of the darkness.
The Full Moon in Cancer over the holiday season gives more a focus on family and home and with it any underlying emotion on what family or home represents. Cancer, representing family, home, hearth adds the warmth and nurture to the cold dark days during the Capricorn (Saturn ruled) cycle every year, however, any affliction to the Moon or tension to the Moon may bring up any emotional residue that gets pushed to the surface.
During any lunar cycle and especially the Cancer Moon, feelings and emotions have a need for attention or at least acknowledgment as it is high tide for any emotional catharsis and during Christmas, whether with nostalgia and sentiment or with family and domestic squabbles, dramas and dysfunction resurfacing. The Moon rules over the stomach and gut feelings, with the tendency for more stomach upsets and emotional stirrings from any stress and strife from brooding and holding onto resentment.
As the Moon changes sign every two days, the moon naturally affects the mood and as I often say, I am in the moon instead of mood. You can watch your mood change as the Moon makes its run over your chart as the Moon triggers key areas and slower moving transits. Even though the Moon cycle is frequent, it is a significant feature as it draws out any pent up emotion, where the Moon closest to home in Cancer, can turn to clinginess and neediness when security is threatened. Seeing where this Full Moon falls in your chart can indicate one’s general mood for the holiday this year.
It’s a pleasant Full Moon overall with a trine to Neptune Pisces adding to a gentle silent night Christmas Eve. Venus in Scorpio is in a talent triangle with Mercury Capricorn and Jupiter Virgo gracing it with jolly happy, (Jupiter) and pleasing chit chat and relating (Venus), generous gift giving and feasting as your cup runneth over (Jupiter) and gregarious communications. Jupiter is a focal point as it joins the nodal axis which gives Jupiter an emphasis.
Christmas Eve however will shift gears and move into a tense aspect over Christmas Day and Boxing Day with Uranus Pluto and Mars as Uranus Aries turns direct from its station the last few weeks so tensions and moods might get crabby and riled up with stomach aches doing summersaults from eating too much (Jupiter) or rebellious, unorthodox shifts into bickering with unsettling touchy subjects raising some hairs and roofs. Mercury locks into a square with Mars for an extended time the next week which can add to challenging commutes and traffic, communications, irritation and might just be a sign of inclement weather or the flu bug getting passed around as Mercury is in its shadow beginning to slow down to turn retrograde early January during the New Year as Uranus Pluto get up close and personal for one last time.
