Saturn in Leo 2005-2007
Saturn is the place most associated with serious stuff and sometimes that’s too sad. But you have to roll with the punches and Saturn will make it hard to swallow some big “reality check” pills. You can’t really get away from it at some period in life. Someone, like me who has a strongly Saturn emphasis live it daily, resonate with its energy and handle it more resiliently but those not familiar with its darkness who run through their blue and desolate periods will feel its pinch more acutely. Depression is most prevalent during the Saturn cycle. The archetype of the weeping willow comes to mind. Albeit, depression has its place as does any emotion. There is nothing more disconcerting then telling someone to put a smile on when they don’t feel like it! Aknowledgement of emotion is as important as leaving it behind and usually not until it is heard. Pasting on a happy face is just not authentic and its really counterproductive. So go have your blue day, get it out of your system and the next thing you know you will be laughing or chuckling away.
Saturn in Leo came at a time of an opposition to transit Chiron in Aquarius and subsequent opposition to Neptune. This heralded the time when the economy was already tipping and quivering on shaky ground. Chiron is about wounds and suffering and Saturn is about restrictions and boundaries whereas Neptune is about dissolution and disarray. The muddle of Saturn Neptune through 2007 demonstrated a time of not foreseeing the necessary boundaries needed with Neptune out on a weak limb. This opposition theme started to really come to together around late 2003 and meeting each other on and off again first with Saturn in Cancer/Chiron in Capricorn to Saturn in Leo/Chiron in Aquarius as these two have been confronting each other. We saw two horrific disasters at this time with the Indian Ocean Tsunami late 2004 as well as Hurrican Katrina October 2005. Many issues culminating in reference to boundaries, limits and restrictions and the subsequent walls, whether necessary or seemingly unjustified come crashing down. The energy is relentless, and has no mercy and its likend to the “straw that broke the camels back”, the last nail in the coffin and simply the “fed up” point. Anything Saturn associates with is about a needed shift and oppositions are a confrontation and crisis point-the pressure mounting will release. Depending on the energetic patterns in each person’s life, these painful confrontation and boundary issues would be taking place most likely around relationships.
Saturn in Leo is an oxymoron; they are poles apart. Saturn is associated with seriousness, darkness, reality and drudgery. Leo is about fun, joy, playfulness and sunshine! The mutual reception in January 2006 of the Sun in Capricorn and Saturn in Leo really brought out this dichotomy with the double whammy of the Sun being darkened by Capricorn Saturn’s call and Saturn in Leo, dampening the dramatic flair and shaking up the confidence and verve of the Leo essence. The regal Leo energy is stifled however it can be disciplined and organized into a thoughtful leadership with the Saturn Leo influence.
Saturn’s move through Cancer in 2003 to 2005 and through to its movement in Leo equates with the tune. “Don’t let the sun go down on me” Elton John. The Sun rules Leo; the Moon Cancer which is a time of summer, light, growth and warmth, and Saturn rules Capricorn, the dark cold, bitter winter. Its interesting the recent media and marketing around crisis hot lines. Our winters here are usually dreary with the perpetual rain which really brings the gloomy sense home. Vancouver is known for its wetlands but it had been very excessive that year. This is Saturn in Leo further with an opposition to Neptune adding a haze of depressiveness, hopelessness and world weariness. Raining on Leo’s parade. Leo and the Sun needs attention, to shine, fun, the limelight and to be seen. Saturn has a different show in mind. Think of the joyful, playful child wanting to sing and dance and the scolding parent dampening the spirit with a cold disciplinary call to duty like doing homework. That’s a light look. A darker look would be an abusive situation taking away that very innocence and joy. Think of Scrooge.
Christmas is a needed celebration as at that time of year as the colors of red and green and the jolly exuberance and generosity of Santa Claus -Saturn’s antithesis, Jupiter helps move us through this dark time of year with the long dark day. Saturn is all about rules, boundaries, being serious, restriction, frustration, patience, limitations, organization, ambition, discipline, practicality and hard work. Work repeats itself as the predominate theme. Seems that’s all that goes on when Saturn is making a call-the slogging at the grind. Somehow “fun” just isn’t a part of this mix. And with Saturn and Leo doing a dance, the song “I don’t want to work, I just want to bang on the drum all day” comes to mind. That’s a Leo rebellion for pleasure.
Anyone with Leo in their chart will be especially aware of this energy playing on their chart factors. Any other fixed sign, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius will also find this stifling energy surrounds them. Channeled properly it can bring great achievement and strides as this is a time Saturn gives the impetus, discipline and drive to get things done and get down to business. The warmth of the Sun is getting a cold call. As they say there is a time for everything, and Saturn will make this very clear. Known as father time, Saturn points to the material realm, reality and responsibility. It will make known anything due and anything neglected. As the term most familiar to those in the financial world, Saturn makes a correction in the ongoing cycle.
